Characterise Metal-Organic Frameworks using Cutting Edge Gas Adsorption

Accurate, High-Resolution Surface Area and Porosity measurement
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have the largest specific surface areas of any materials known making them ideal for for applications ranging from gas storage and separation to catalysis and drug delivery. They offer controllable chemical functionality, as well as ordered structure defined by virtually infinite combinations of metal cluster and organic linker. The surface area and porosity of a MOF are performance-defining, making measurement essential; gas adsorption is the ‘gold standard’ technique.
In this webinar, attendees will learn about:
– best practices and challenges of sample preparation
– sample degassing
– surface area characterisation
– pore size distribution characterisation, and
– data interpretation of this exciting family of porous materials

NEW Zetasizer Advance – faster, more intelligent nanoparticle sizing

Since the early 1980’s, the Malvern Zetasizer range of instruments have evolved to become the most widely used dynamic light scattering (DLS) instruments, measuring particle and molecular size from less than a nanometer to several microns. The newly released Zetasizer Pro and Zetasizer Ultra add ease and performance to the popular Zetasizer Nano range.

From the 28th July 2020, Malvern Panalytical will unveil the new and expanded Zetasizer range: Zetasizer Advance.

Combining DLS and electrophoretic light scattering (ELS), and unique Non-Invasive Backscatter (NIBS) technology the Zetasizer is able to measure accurate particle and molecular size, molecular weight and zeta potential across a wide range of concentrations. Recent updates introduced into the Zetasizer Pro and Ultra systems such as Multi-Angle Dynamic Light Scattering (MADLS) and adaptive correlation have enabled higher resolution data and a new approach to data acquisition which separates the sample signal from that of external noise (such as from dust or other contaminants). This enables the user to obtain reproducible particle size data faster and with minimal sample preparation.

The new ZS Xplorer software offers intuitive, guided workflows that make setting up a method and performing a measurement easy and straight-forward. Using an artificial intelligence (AI) led approach to data quality assessment, it brings attention to any potential measurement issues and provides guidance on how to improve them.

Overall, the Zetasizer systems provide a comprehensive analysis of your materials for a wide range of applications. Through the combination of novel measurement capabilities with advanced data analysis users can accurately characterise the size and surface charge of colloids and nanoparticles; screen protein formulations for colloidal stability and the presence of aggregates; and, assess the shelf-life and stability of complex formulations.

Take a closer look at the new Zetasizer Advance – more accurate, more versatile, simpler, yet much more powerful.

Phagocytic uptake of Phrodogreen Zymosan particles by hiPSC derived Microglia  Microglia cells were treated with 4 different concentrations of Zymosan and phagocytic uptake was measured after 24h with and without transport in the Cellbox. Subsequent imaging showed human iPSC derived microglia in the Cellbox did not alter morphology, nor phagocytic capacity. This study shows Cellbox can be safely used to transport very sensitive cells like human iPSC-derived microglia from one lab to another.

Creating organised nanomaterial coatings with the Langmuir-Blodgett method

Coatings and thin films made from nanomaterials such as nanoparticles, graphene or nanowires are gaining recognition and use in various products and applications including displays, sensors, medical devices and energy storages. The challenge is to achieve a homogenous coating with optimised packing density, particle organisation and film thickness. One of the most trusted techniques for creating nanomaterial thin films and coatings is Langmuir-Blodgett (LB).

In this 20minute webinar you will learn the basics of the Langmuir-Blodgett method and see how the method has been applied for nanomaterial deposition.
